FAQ

Make sure KeyVox is enabled in:
Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards

Also verify Full Access is turned on:
Settings → KeyVox → Keyboards → Allow Full Access

If it's already enabled:

  • Toggle it off and back on
  • Restart the app (or your phone if needed)

A restart usually does the trick.

If tapping the globe doesn't bring up KeyVox:

  • Make sure it's added to your keyboard list
  • Toggle the keyboard off and back on in Settings
  • Restart your device if it still doesn't appear

KeyVox is designed for dictation first, not manual typing.

If you need to type, just tap ABC to switch back to the first alphabetical keyboard in your list instantly.

KeyVox runs entirely on-device after the model is downloaded. No internet required, no data leaves your phone.

KeyVox uses Full Access to communicate with the containing app via App Group storage.

Include your device and iOS version if you can — it helps a lot.

Hold your trigger key to record, release to transcribe and insert text.

The default trigger key is Right Option ⌥. You can change this in Settings to Command, Control, or Fn.

If nothing happens when you press it, make sure you're pressing the right-side Option key, not the left one.

KeyVox needs Accessibility permission to insert text into other apps.

Check that it's enabled in:
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility

If it's already enabled, try toggling it off and back on.

Make sure KeyVox has microphone permission:

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone

Also check that your input device is correctly selected in KeyVox Settings.

Yes. Hold Shift while releasing the trigger key to switch to hands-free mode.

Recording will continue until you press Esc or press the trigger key again.

Open KeyVox Settings and re-run the model download.

You can choose between:

  • Whisper (~190 MB) – works on macOS 13.5+
  • Parakeet (~480 MB) – works on macOS 14+
